For the past few years, we’ve witnessed significant growth in Malawi’s cinematography industry. Several talented videographers have transformed the music video production landscape, and today, one can not talk about videographers without mentioning Seany films.
Seany films is one of the trending and most successful cinematography in 2024. He has directed almost every trending songs likes of Gwamba, Fada Moti, Temwa, Tay Grin, Kineo and Aidfest, Wikise, Toastt, and Onesimus.
Films explained what inspired him to pursue videography and how he got started.
He said: “ Growing up, I was fascinated by storytelling and visual arts. I began experimenting with filmmaking during primary school when I was in standard 4, making short videos using my Dad’s phone and local and zero budgets music videos. “
“My passion grew, and I pursue in videography professionally and collaborating with fellow creative like Viny Visuals and more,” he added.
He emphasized what does he thinks has made him rise in terms of popularity. He said: “ Consistently delivering high-quality work, adapting to industry trends and technologies and building strong relationships with clients and collaborators has made me to be where I am today.”
He also shared that he has been facing challenges, such as limited resources and equipment, competition in the industry, and balancing creative vision with client expectations.
Seany films talked on how does he sees his work contributing to the overall growth in the industry.
He said: “My work contributes to Malawi’s creative industry growth by showcasing local talent and stories, collaborating with emerging artists and inspiring younger generations to persue creative careers.”
Films give his views on how he wants to see the future of Malawi Videography. He said: “I want to see the increase in international collaborations and .ore diverse storytelling and representation. “
He added that his special project in which he has worked on, is of “The Unseen Malawi documentary” because it holds a special place in his heart. “It highlighted the countries hidden gems and untold stories, showcasing the beauty and resilience of Malawian communities.”
At the end of the interview, he said he would love to work with Edgah Esteves, the founder of Black Square productions, because it has been his long-time wish.
