Mbumba Arts Festival promote awareness and Tourism

Last weekend, 28th September, Plug links management host an event called Mbumba arts Festival which happened at Mzuzu Stadium.

Speaking with the coordinator at the event, Sibongile Kumwenda, explained the rationale behind hosting such an event in Mzuzu.

She said: “As an event coordinator, our primary objective was twofold. Firstly, we aimed to boost tourism in Mzuzu by attracting visitors from surrounding regions and showcasing the city’s hidden gems. We hoped to stimulate local economic growth and put Mzuzu on the map as a vibrant destination.”

“Equally importantly, we sought to provide a unique platform for children to learn about diverse cultures in an engaging and interactive way. Our goal was to foster cultural awareness, appreciation, and exchange among young minds, helping to break down social barriers and build a more inclusive community” she added.

Kumwenda said that they are satisfied with how the event happened. “We were both satisfied and not disappointed with the culture dances because that’s what we’re looking for”.

The event coordinator elaborated on their plans for future events. She said: “ Mbumba arts and mukuti will be done each and every year not only in Mzuzu but in different regions and cities too”.

“We aim to celebrate the diversity of Malawi’s cultures, traditions and artistic expressions” the coordinator added.

She also said that they did not face any challenges because all cultural dances we’re willing to come and perform.

One of the people who attended the event, Lucius Kalinga said the event was good. "The event was fire because we saw performance like of Nyau performing with energy."

"My expectations wasn't like what happened there, it was more of my expectations. Didn't think that Eli Njuchi as a performer would hold the stage like he did because it was fire and intriguing."

He added that people at the event get reminded of what our culture is like by seeing the dances, the songs, and even the attire mix with gule".
