Crispy Malawi emphasized on why they started selling merchandise, explaining that it was a way to connect with their fans and followers on a deeper level, create an additional revenue stream, and showcase their brand's personality and style through unique and creative designs that would vibe with their audience..
In an interview he said, "We decided to venture into selling merchandise because it is what we thought to do apart from doing music. Our merchandise, which includes clothing items, is uniquely designed and produced in-house, unlike popular brands like Nike and Adidas".
"We're proud to say that we have our own clothing store, Malawian drip store, and A'ba.lé is one of our flagship merchandise lines, because it is one of our own brands" he added.
Crispy Malawi said that the clothing store is doing well but it wasn't always the case. "Initially, we used to produce limited quantities of merchandise, selling them only in Lilongwe and Blantyre. However, we've since scaled up production and expanded our reach, making our products available everywhere".
He said that all profits from their clothing line store are being used to support their daily life, enabling them to pursue their passions without financial stress, invest in their future and maintain creative freedom, while also allowing them to give back to their community and fund initiatives that align with their values and goals.
He further mentioned that the profits also serve as a crucial investment in the growth and expansion of their brand, enabling them to scale their operations, explore new opportunities, and build a sustainable business.
When it comes to how they make and sell products, he said, "Our primary products, mainly t-shirts, are printed locally in Malawi. We source the t-shirts, print, and package them here. For other products like Slides, we only make designs and outsource production in China, where they handle everything from manufacturing to packaging".
Crispy Malawi further explained how the name of A'ba.lé came up. "Our name," A'ba.lé," came up because we have a group where we collaborate and work together as a group to achieve our goals".
Talking about future plans of Malawian drip store, the CEO said that they are planning to introduce new products under the A'ba.lé brand. "Now, were planning to introduce new products under the A'ba.lé brand, including boxers, football kits and vests. Our goal is to diversify our product line and cater to a broader customer base"
He added that, if you're considering venturing into business, be prepared to work hard. "As Artist we're already in the business, so it's essential to leverage our creative space and turn it into profit".
